4.18.08

It’s been busy at The Yarn Corner.  I have not done a very good job of keeping up with this blog and hope to do better in the near future.  My daughter is getting married next weekend and right now things are really focussed on that.  I will be gone but Bunni will be filling in for me and she does such a great job.

What’s going on here?

We got in lots of new sock yarn as part of the Sox Hot Spot promotion this year.  I had time to knit one sock with some of the self-striping yarn and liked it.  There are some great colors!

The last shipment of the Tofutsie sock club yarn arrived and is in stock.

I have a few new knitting bags in.  I got one from the Debbie Macomber line and one of the Amy Butler bags in.  They are both printed bags and very nice.

It’s been a strange Spring weather-wise and I’ve had a lot of out-of-town knitters stop in for a new project because they didn’t get the weather they were planning on!  Drop in when you have a minute and say hi to Bunni this next few weeks!

we’re still here!

I’m really sorry I haven’t been better at blogging.

I’ll have pictures to post later, but the newest things going on at The Yarn Corner is that we’re one of the Sox Hotspots for the Thinking Outside the Sock promotion going on this year through Knitter’s Magazine.  We have the Universal Yarns sock yarns and they’ve been doing pretty well.

We also got in a good shipment of Heilo wool by Dale of Norway.  This sport weight yarn is beautiful.

We’ve gotten in a few more knitting bags… from Amy Butler and Debbie MacComber.

I’ll try to do better at keeping things up to date, but do want to mention that daughter #2 is getting married in April and I’ll be in and out over the next few weeks…but as always, if I am not there, the jewelry store employees can ring up a sale even if they can’t offer help.  They always will call me and I can help over the phone if it’s possible.

Thanks for your understanding during this time!

Duet Sock Yarn!!!

Today we received our first shipment of Duet Sock Yarn  from A Swell Yarn Shop

What’s fun about this yarn is that not only does it knit up beautifully and it comes in 3 weights, but you get a matching solid yarn for the heels and toes.

Come take a look!

We got in a few more copies of New Pathways for Sock Knitters and The Great American Afghan.  It’s been exciting to see these books fly off the shelves.

Also, I was able get 5 more copies of Holiday Gifts by Interweave Knits.  That’s all they’d send since it has been selling out everywhere so if you want one, you had better grab it soon!

Our next sock class on 2 circular needles will start  November 29.  There is still time to sign up.   We’ll also have our introductory class for the New Pathways book on November 17.  Please let us know if you want a spot.  If you purchased the book here, the class is free.

Happy knitting!

When I came in this morning, I was greeted by 4 packages!

I got some new scarf kits from Yarns Northwest.  It included some new colors of the Reversible Cabled Scarf and Lace Plume Scarf with silk and merino yarn.  There are also 3 children’s hat kits with Heirloom Merino Magic washable wool.

Two more colors of Baby Ull arrived.  I believe that is all but the brown now in.  The yarn has been popular.

This is exciting!  I got the Fibertrends Gelato Bag pattern and all of the colors available at the time.  As a special, buy the yarn and get the pattern free!  The kit is $36.

And last but not least!  The Great American Afghan pattern books and the suggested yarn for the first square arrived!  They should have been here yesterday but for some reason (to the disappointment of a few of us) they missed their connection and spent an extra night in some warehouse!  The book says that this afghan has been appealing to people who have never had a desire to knit an afghan.  There are 25 designers and all of the yarn suggested in the original is Cascade 220.  Some other Cascade options are shown.

Here is a list of the designers you would have the opportunity to learn new techniques from:

  • Priscilla Gibson-Roberts
  • Paula Levy
  • Traci Bunkers
  • Celeste Pinheiro
  • Jacqueline Jewett
  • Maureen Egan Emlet
  • Susan Z Douglas
  • Kathy Zimmerman
  • Lily Chin
  • Wendy Sacks
  • Melissa Leapman
  • Bette Anne  Lampers
  • Nicky Epstein
  • Sidna Farley
  • Marge Hayes

  • Joan Schrouder
  • Barbara
    Venishnick
  • Diane Zangl
  • Sally Melville
  • Heather Lodinsky
  • Meg Swansen
  • Gene Beugler
  • Nancy Bush

We’ll be having some kind of knit-along and we’ll get to learn all kinds of new techniques, one square at a time.  The pattern book sells for $12.95 and if you choose to do it in Cascade 220, it is $6.60 a skein.  The first square uses 3 colors and some of the colors will repeat later.

I am off to wind some yarn get get started!

Baby Ull is in!

The Dale of Norway Baby Ull is in.  We ordered all of the colors required for the patterns and almost all of them arrived.  The yarn is really nice!

We are out of the New Pathways books although we have more on order.  The book has gone into it’s 2nd printing and all we can do is wait.  The class spaces are filling up quickly and we will be contacting those who will be taking the class this next Saturday to confirm you still want your spot.

We are so excited to have access now to the Namaste Knitting Totes.  There are a few on order right now and we have access to all of their available styles and colors.  Delivery takes about a week.  These totes are designed to use one side for a purse and one side for a knitting bag.

Our New Pathways introductory class is close to full but we will take names for the next one.  If you purchased the book from us, the introductory class is free.  The word in the trade is that there has never been a knitting book that has sold out as quickly as this one and it has gone into second printing already.  The new edition will not be available until mid-October.  We still have 2 copies available.

The new kits have arrived and they are cute.  A few have already gone home with customers.

Also, I expect to get some Jigsaw sock yarn in by the end of the week.  This yarn will be shown in Vogue magazine soon.  The colors look great!

The first Pathways class will be October 13 and space is limited.  Please let us know if you are interested in taking part.  The introductory class is free if you have purchased the book from us.  We will do a more specific class later to help you with your own full-size sock.

Drop by or call us to reserve your spot!

If you are on Ravelry, join us in our very own group!

New Pathways Sock Class

Have you purchased New Pathways in Sockknitting?  Do you feel like you would like someone to help you now?  We are getting ready to set up an introductory class for those who own the book.  If you are interested, please call the shop (360.533.2775) or email us so we can put your name on the list.  As always, we will do our best to accomodate your schedule.  We have been so excited with the new things we are learning through this book.

We expect to get a shipment of Dale of Norway Baby Ull in October.  The patterns accompanying this yarn are incredibly cute!

We also will be receiving kits from Bully Woolies very soon.  Cute, cute, cute!

Stop in soon and visit, bring your knitting if you have time to stay awhile!

The new Tofutsie Snack Pack 3 has arrived.  To see the new colors, visit http://soysilk.com/tofutsies.html#newcolors .  The colors on the card don’t really do justice to how pretty the new colors are.

There are a few copies left of Cat Bordhi’s new book, New Pathways for Sockknitters.  The book has gone into it’s 2nd printing and not many of the 1st printing are available.  The next batch will be ready mid-October.  We will be holding a mini-introduction class for those who purchase the book from us soon.  The book has literally been flying off the shelves!

The deadline is drawing near for the shipment date on  Afghans for Afghans.  I believe the items need to be received by early October.
